Entry level

P2 Student Pilot Training

Fundamental theory, ground handling, equipment use and preparation for flight.

    Basic aerodynamics, meteorology, wing and harness familiarisation.

    Wing control, launch preparation and correct reactions.

Pilot levels

Pilot ratings and level cards.

P2, P3, P4 and P5 describe training and experience levels; T1 and T2 are tandem levels. Current requirements appear in the THSF training guide.

P2Entry level

Student Pilot

Covers fundamental theory, equipment knowledge, ground handling and introductory flights under instructor supervision.

P3Intermediate level

Intermediate Pilot

Develops launch skills at different sites, ridge soaring, basic manoeuvres and an introduction to thermalling.

P4Pilot level

Pilot

Covers gaining altitude in thermal conditions, extending flight time and planning flights with GPS records.

P5Experienced level

Experienced Pilot

Covers cross-country flying, route tracking, group flying and post-flight evaluation.

T1T1 tandem level

Sport Tandem Pilot

Covers the training and practical requirements for sport tandem flights after the P5 level.

T2T2 tandem level

T2 Tandem Pilot

The pilot level defined for sport and tourism-oriented sport tandem flights. Current requirements are verified through THSF sources.

Current THSF guides and announcements govern pilot-level card procedures. An IPPI card helps explain a national pilot rating internationally and is valid only with a current national licence or rating card.

This list shows documents commonly requested for pilot training. The definitive list is published with each course.

    Identity document

    Original identity card or passport and a copy.

  2. 02
    Criminal record

    The issue date must meet the conditions stated in the training announcement.

  3. 03
    Blood group document

    An official document or valid card showing the blood group.

  4. 04
    Education document

    A certificate showing graduation or current education status.

  5. 05
    Passport photograph

    The required quantity and dimensions are stated in each training announcement.

  6. 06
    Medical report

    A medical report meeting the wording and validity requirements in the relevant announcement.

  7. 07
    Flight accident insurance

    Insurance valid for the scope and dates stated in the relevant announcement.

  8. 08
    Undertaking and consent

    An undertaking and, for participants under 18, a parent or guardian consent form.
